Fishing

Fishing is a predominant occupation of men for those littoral communities along the various swamps and rivers. The items used are thread, net, bamboo straw nets called ota, calabash plate called ebaa, and baskets for bailing ponds.

Ekpeye people are very religious, hence the gods/goddess of the land and water are appeased using the sacrifice of fowls, goats, rams, and even cows etc. This is done for protection, safety and good catch. These types of rituals could be on an individual or entire community when going to ponds or lakes such a Udewe of Imaji family, Unwelenye of Ishikoloko family, Akpana unwolimini of Ediwulu family, and Udhule lake of Ubie.
